The ultimate social media size guide for 2026
September 3, 2026Correctify Team
Wrong image sizes are one of the most common ways a good design gets ruined before anyone even sees it. A logo gets cropped out of a cover photo. A Call To Action (CTA) button lands in the part of a Story that Instagram covers with its own UI. A LinkedIn banner uploaded at the wrong ratio looks stretched on desktop and fine on mobile or the other way around.
None of this is complicated once you have the right numbers. The problem is that every platform uses different pixel dimensions for the same type of content, and they change often enough that guides go stale within a year. This one is current for 2026, checked against Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube's own specifications rather than copied from an old post.
Bookmark it or keep it open in a tab. Here's every size you'll actually need.
Instagram sizes
- Profile picture: 320 x 320 px (uploaded), displayed as a circle
- Feed post, portrait (best performing): 1080 x 1350 px, ratio 4:5
- Feed post, square: 1080 x 1080 px, ratio 1:1
- Feed post, landscape: 1080 x 566 px, ratio 1.91:1
- Carousel slides: 1080 x 1350 px each, same aspect ratio across the set
- Stories and Reels: 1080 x 1920 px, ratio 9:16
- Reels ads and Stories ads: 1440 x 2560 px, ratio 9:16
A few things worth knowing. Instagram accepts feed images anywhere between 1.91:1 and 4:5, but the grid preview always crops everything to a taller shape. If you care how your grid looks as a whole, keep faces and text centered rather than near the edges. For Reels and Stories ads, leave roughly the top 14% and bottom 20 to 35% of the frame clear of text or logos, since that space usually gets covered by captions and buttons.
Facebook sizes
- Profile picture: upload at 320 x 320 px (it displays smaller, around 176 x 176 px on desktop)
- Cover photo: 851 x 315 px, minimum 400 x 150 px
- Feed post, square: 1080 x 1080 px
- Feed post, portrait: 1080 x 1350 px, ratio 4:5
- Feed post, landscape: 1080 x 566 px
- Stories and Reels: 1080 x 1920 px, ratio 9:16
- Feed ad: 1080 x 1080 px (1:1) or 1080 x 1350 px (4:5), minimum 600 x 600 px
- Stories and Reels ad: 1440 x 2560 px, ratio 9:16
Cover photos are the trickiest asset on Facebook because desktop and mobile crop them differently, and Facebook doesn't let you reposition once it's uploaded. Keep anything important, like a headline or a face, within the center third of the image.
LinkedIn sizes
- Personal profile picture: 400 x 400 px
- Personal cover photo: 1584 x 396 px, ratio 4:1
- Company page logo: 400 x 400 px
- Company page cover: displays at 1128 x 191 px. LinkedIn will scale down a larger file, so upload the sharpest version you have rather than designing exactly at 1128 x 191
- Feed post, square: 1200 x 1200 px
- Feed post, portrait (best performing in the feed): 1080 x 1350 px, ratio 4:5
- Link preview image: 1200 x 627 px
- Article or newsletter cover: 1920 x 1080 px
Company pages and personal profiles use different cover sizes, and they are not interchangeable. Uploading a personal 4:1 banner to a company page will crop badly, since the company cover is a much shorter, wider strip.
X (formerly Twitter) sizes
- Profile picture: 400 x 400 px
- Header photo: 1500 x 500 px
- In-stream image, landscape: 1280 x 720 px, ratio 16:9
- In-stream image, square: 1080 x 1080 px
- Standalone image ad: 1200 x 675 px (16:9) or 1200 x 1200 px (1:1)
Header images get cropped by roughly 60 pixels top and bottom depending on the screen, so don't put anything critical right at the top or bottom edge.
TikTok sizes
- Profile picture: 200 x 200 px, minimum accepted is 20 x 20 px
- Video and carousel: 1080 x 1920 px, ratio 9:16
- In-feed ad, vertical (recommended): 1080 x 1920 px, minimum 540 x 960 px
- In-feed ad, square: minimum 640 x 640 px
TikTok is one of the few platforms where going off-ratio actually costs you screen space rather than just getting cropped. Anything that isn't 9:16 gets black bars added top and bottom so it fills the screen.
Pinterest sizes
- Profile picture: 280 x 280 px, displayed as a circle
- Standard Pin: 1000 x 1500 px, ratio 2:3 (Pinterest's recommended ratio)
- Idea Pin: 1080 x 1920 px, ratio 9:16
- Board cover: 600 x 600 px
- Image and Shopping ads: 1000 x 1500 px, ratio 2:3
Pinterest also has a defined safe zone within the standard Pin: roughly 270 px from the top, 65 px from the left, 195 px from the right, and 790 px from the bottom are at risk of being covered by the Pinterest UI. Keep text out of those margins.
YouTube sizes
- Profile picture: 800 x 800 px
- Channel banner: 2560 x 1440 px, ratio 16:9, minimum 2048 x 1152 px
- Video thumbnail: 1280 x 720 px, ratio 16:9
- Shorts: 1080 x 1920 px, ratio 9:16
The channel banner is the one people get wrong most often, because the full 2560 x 1440 image is rarely fully visible. Only the center 1235 x 338 px area is guaranteed to show on every device, so that's where your logo or channel name needs to live.
Print sizes, for when you need physical output
Correctify also handles print-ready designs, so here are the sizes that come up most:
- Business card: 88.9 x 50.8 mm (3.5 x 2 in)
- Flyer, US Letter: 215.9 x 279.4 mm (8.5 x 11 in)
- A4: 210 x 297 mm
- Tri-fold brochure: 279.4 x 215.9 mm, folded down from that flat size
- Poster: 457.2 x 609.6 mm (18 x 24 in) is the standard mid-size option
Print sizes need to be set up with bleed, usually an extra 3mm on every edge, so nothing gets cut off during trimming. This is one of the reasons print files trip people up more than digital ones.
